Dill

dill

What spice can you not imagine your kitchen without? Salt and pepper are probably classics for everyone, but what about herbs? Do you like dill?

Dill is a very popular spice. Its English name (dill) comes from the Scandinavian word dilla, which means to calm down. Both the leaves and seeds of dill are used.

Dill is also added to soups, stews, and sauces. It should be added at the end of cooking or even after the heat has been turned off to best preserve the flavor and aroma.

Dill can be dried or frozen for winter storage. I I freeze chopped dill in a box - then I can grab a pinch whenever I need it.

I sow dill in my small garden bed in spring and midsummer to have young sprigs. And I dry the inflorescences for tea.

If you have more dill, you can make dill pesto - recipe here
