Vacation in France. Car trip from Oslo to Ladoix-Serrigny, stopping in Germany. September 2024
All journeys begin with a dream, then we start planning and travel.
I visited France for the first time not so long ago, and I immediately fell in love. All countries are beautiful, but France has some specific charm. Maybe the books by A. Dumas that I read in my youth had such an impact. Then we visited Paris for half a day and went to Lebourne. We lived there for a week. And after this vacation, I realized that I would vacation in France more than once.
We planned this vacation for a long time, choosing a place almost using the 'Close your eyes and point your finger at the map' method. The Dijon area suited us very well, because before that we had been in Germany, in Brandenburg, for a few days, where there was a rowing masters competition and we had a team there, which we root for and go there every year as a support team.
We traveled by car, we travel with our dog Perkūnas, so longer trips are by car, and we suspect our dog would not enjoy flying.
First, when we decided to go on holiday to Ladoix-Serrigny, we arranged places to stay along the way, closer to the route. I won't describe the short stops necessary to visit the toilet, drink coffee, or walk the dog, as they are probably very interesting.
For the trip, so that I could stare at the speedometer less, I took some lace/knitwear where I don't have to count anything, it helps a lot.
Our route towards France. We left home in Oslo. The first day's destination was Rostock in Germany, where we had rented the Hotel An der Hasenheide for the night. A very nice hotel, we arrived quite late, but there were no problems with registration, although registration was theoretically no longer working. And there was even a restaurant and we had the opportunity to buy dinner on the spot, without wandering around the city. We could choose to eat in the restaurant, where they gladly accept dogs, or in the room. We chose the room for our own peace, because we noticed a few kittens, and our dog would like to pet them. While we were walking with Perkūnas, dinner was ready.
The next day – a trip to Brandenburg, to the rowers. We watched the rowing there, spent the evenings together. It was fun. We brought a cake, it was a great success Baked cheesecake with raspberries and blueberries. Withstood the journey in a cooler.
We stayed in Brandenburg for a few days, and on Monday morning we left for France. The plan was to stay overnight at the Saint Avold hotel, near the border, but already in France.
Monday, we leave Brandenburg. A 600 km journey awaits us to the hotel. We stopped several times to walk the dog, to drink coffee. In the evening we entered France. We easily found a hotel to stay in. We had booked the accommodation in advance, we were afraid that it might be more difficult to find with the dog just passing by. The hotel was secluded, very beautiful oak trees grew around, I planned to choose deep ones, but that remained just a plan.
After a rest, we set off early in the morning across France towards our new home for a couple of weeks. We drove on the motorway, some parts of which were toll roads. But we didn't look for free ones.
Even driving on the highway wasn't boring. The sun was shining, there were beautiful views out the window. Of course, it was different for the man, he was driving and didn't look around.
On the way, we stopped at a gas station to have a coffee and to pay Perkūnas a visit. We stopped at such an interesting one, with many different sculptures of warriors.
After turning off the highway, we drove the last part of the way through small towns. And when we entered Ladoix-Serrigny, we were greeted by a stream and light brown houses. The Maison with brown, blue shutters. And vineyards all around. We visited during harvest time.
When we arrived and settled into our new home, we realized that we hadn't done our homework. There was a bakery and a small shop nearby. But they were open from 12:15 in the morning and from 16:18-13:XNUMX to XNUMX:XNUMX. And we arrived hungry, with empty containers at around XNUMX:XNUMX. When we explored the area on Google Maps, it seemed that there was both a cafe and a shop, but we didn't check the opening hours or their sizes. After unpacking our things, we had to google again and drive to the nearest shopping center. Instead of resting after the trip 🙂
So, we settled in Ladoix-Serrigny, between Dijon and Beune, for two weeks. Our plan was to just live in France, we didn't have any special objects to visit or anything like that. We spent most of our time at home, walking around Ladoix-Serrigny. We were just there and enjoying ourselves.
Of course, we also visited Dijon and Beune.
I stopped by a few flea markets. There's no way I could miss this.
And we lived, cooked, greeted our neighbors, and quickly made friends with the grape pickers (we joked with them when they passed by).
We really had a good time, we'll just plan more carefully next time.
I will add more when I return home.
We will definitely vacation in France again.
