Ingredients

  • 800 g beef sliced into strips
  • 2 peppers
  • 1 onion
  • 3 slices garlic
  • 150 g maize starch
  • 200 ml oil for frying

For marinades

  • 2 spoons Shaoxing wine
  • 3 spoons soy sauce

For the sauce

  • 3 spoons shrimp sauce (oyster)
  • 2 spoons rice vinegar
  • 3 spoons tomato sauce
  • 3 arb.sh. sambal (chilli) paste

For serving

  • 150 g rice

Instructions

  • Marinate the meat by placing the beef in a bowl, cut into strips, and pouring over the Shaoxing wine and soy sauce, stir well and leave to marinate for half an hour.
  • In a bowl, mix all the ingredients for the sauce.
  • Prepare the vegetables by cutting the peppers and onion into large cubes. Chop the garlic.
  • Bring the rice to the boil, cook according to the instructions on the packet.
  • Heat the oil in a frying pan on the higher edges. Coat the meat in starch and place in the hot oil, frying for about 2 minutes on each side. Do not put all the meat in at once to prevent sticking, if it does not fit loosely at the same time, fry twice. Remove the fried meat to a plate.
  • After cooking the meat, drain the excess oil in a bowl. In the remaining small amount of oil, fry the onions and peppers until they start to soften, add the chopped garlic.When the garlic starts to turn yellow, add the meat back to the pan, pour the sauce over it and stir well.

  • Serve with rice.

If you like it spicier, add more Sambal, but be careful not to taste too much!
