Which spice can’t you imagine your kitchen without? Salt and pepper are classics for everyone, but what about herbs? Do you like dill?

Dill is a very popular spice. Its English name (dill) comes from the Scandinavian word dilla, which means to soothe. Both the leaves and the seeds are used in dill.

Dill is also added to soups, stews and sauces. They should be added at the end of cooking or even after the heat has been turned off to preserve the flavour and aroma.

Dill can be dried or frozen for winter stock. I freeze chopped dill in a box so you can take a pinch whenever you need it.

I sow dill in my small garden bed in spring and mid-summer to give me young branches. And I dry the flowers for tea.

If you have more dill, you can make dill pesto – recipe here
